Nose Aesthetics

Rhinoplasty, called “rhinoplasty” in medicine, is a surgical procedure performed to improve the shape and/or function of the nose. It can be performed for aesthetic concerns as well as to eliminate functional problems such as nasal congestion. Thanks to modern techniques, rhinoplasty allows the person to have a more harmonious nose structure with the face and get rid of breathing problems.

What is Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty is a surgery that aims to improve both the appearance and function of the nose by making changes in its bone and cartilage structure. In addition to aesthetic problems such as low nasal tip, arched nose, nasal curvature, wide nasal wings, asymmetries, it is also possible to treat respiratory problems such as deviation (nasal septum curvature) and turbinate hypertrophy.

Who is a Suitable Candidate for Rhinoplasty?

The following criteria are generally sought in individuals considering rhinoplasty:

  • Being over 18 years of age (for the completion of bone development),

  • Good general health,

  • Having realistic expectations,

  • Complaining about the shape of your nose or breathing problems.

Both women and men can be suitable candidates for rhinoplasty. Expectations should be evaluated with a detailed examination and, if necessary, 3D simulations before surgery.

Types of Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty can be applied with different techniques. The method is chosen according to the surgeon's preference, the structure and needs of the patient's nose:

1. Open Rhinoplasty

A small incision is made in the area called the columella between the nostrils and the nose is opened completely. The surgeon can have direct access to the internal structures of the nose. It is especially preferred in revision surgeries or complex deformities.

2. Closed Rhinoplasty

The incisions are made inside the nostrils and there are no external scars. It is a less invasive method, recovery time may be faster. It is preferred for correcting simple structural problems.

Operation Process

Rhinoplasty is performed under general anesthesia and takes approximately 1.5-3 hours. During the operation, nasal bones can be broken, cartilages can be shaped or excess tissue can be removed. If necessary, intranasal structures can also be corrected to eliminate breathing problems.

After surgery, a splint (nasal cast) is usually placed on the nose and the nose can be supported with silicone splints. These materials are removed after 5-7 days on average.

Recovery Process

Although recovery after rhinoplasty varies from person to person, it usually progresses as follows:

  • First week There may be edema and bruises around the nose. It is recommended to sleep with the head elevated.

  • Week 2: Bruising is reduced and patients can usually return to social life.

  • 1st month: Swelling decreases, the shape of the nose starts to look clearer.

  • 6-12 months: The nose fits completely, the final results are clear.

During the healing process, it is very important to go to the doctor regularly and follow the recommendations given.

What is Functional Rhinoplasty?

These are rhinoplasty surgeries aimed at correcting not only aesthetic but also functional problems. Structures that prevent breathing such as nasal curvature (septum deviation), nasal flesh growth (turbinate hypertrophy), valve stenosis are surgically corrected. In this way, successful results are achieved in terms of both aesthetics and health.

Revision Rhinoplasty

The second (or more) rhinoplasty operation performed for individuals who have previously undergone nasal surgery but are not satisfied with the result or have respiratory problems is called “revision rhinoplasty”. It can be more challenging than the first surgery and should be performed by an experienced surgeon.

Things to Consider After Rhinoplasty

  • Heavy exercise should be avoided for the first few weeks,

  • It should be protected from sunlight,

  • Care should be taken to avoid a blow to the nose,

  • The use of glasses should be postponed for at least 1-2 months (on doctor's recommendation),

  • Saline mouthwashes and nasal sprays should be used regularly.

Risks of Rhinoplasty

As with any surgical procedure, there are some risks in rhinoplasty. These are

  • Infection,

  • Bleeding,

  • Asymmetry,

  • Problems with smell,

  • Undercorrection or overcorrection,

  • Need for revision.

These risks can be minimized with an experienced surgeon and proper surgical planning.

Rhinoplasty Prices

Rhinoplasty prices vary according to many factors such as the experience of the surgeon, the equipment of the clinic, the scope of the procedure and the need for revision. A detailed examination is essential to get a clear price. Turkey offers both price advantage and high quality for international patients in the field of aesthetic surgery.

Rhinoplasty can provide a more proportional nose appearance to one's face, while at the same time improving the quality of breathing. Today, rhinoplasty, which is quite common for both men and women, has become safer, more comfortable and satisfying with technological developments. The right patient selection, detailed examination and realistic expectations are the key elements for a successful outcome.
