What is a Facelift?
Facelift (rhytidectomy) is the surgical tightening of sagging skin and subcutaneous tissues in the face and neck area and removal of excess skin. In facelift surgeries performed with modern techniques, not only the skin but also the subcutaneous connective tissue SMAS (Superficial Musculoaponeurotic System) layer is also shaped to achieve long-lasting and natural results.

Preoperative Evaluation

Skin elasticity, wrinkle level and degree of sagging are evaluated.
Facial symmetry, jaw line and neck angle are analyzed.
The technique to be used (including mini facelift, full facelift, neck lift) is determined.
If necessary, combined procedures are planned (e.g. blepharoplasty, temple lift).
How Is Facelift Surgery Performed?
General anesthesia is applied under.
Average duration of surgery 3-5 hours It lasts.
A thin incision is made starting in front of the ear and extending behind the ear and into the scalp.
The SMAS layer is tightened, excess skin is removed.
The skin is pulled upwards and backwards, providing a taut but natural appearance.
Stitches are placed in aesthetically hidden areas.
In some cases, an incision can also be made under the chin (for neck lift).
If necessary, a drain is placed and a special bandage is applied.
Surgical Techniques:
Mini Facelift: In mild sagging, it offers a shorter incision and fast recovery time.
Full Facelift: It is applied in moderate and advanced sagging and renews the entire facial contour.
Combined with Neck Lift: The under chin and neck area can also be recovered in the same session.
Recovery Process
1 night hospitalization is recommended.
In the first days, there may be mild pain, edema, bruising and a feeling of tightness.
The stitches are removed (or dissolve spontaneously) in 7-10 days.
Return to social life is possible within 1-2 weeks.
It may take several months for the swelling to completely disappear and the result to settle.
The scars remain hidden behind the scalp and ears and fade over time.
