Tummy Tuck

Tummy tuck surgery is an aesthetic operation that aims to surgically remove excess skin and sagging tissues in the abdominal area and tighten the abdominal muscles. Loosened abdominal tissue as a result of birth, aging, rapid weight changes or genetic factors can negatively affect the aesthetic appearance and self-confidence of individuals. Abdominoplasty offers a permanent and effective solution to these problems.

What is Tummy Tuck?

Abdominoplasty is an operation that targets sagging skin, especially below the navel, and relaxation of the abdominal muscles. Thanks to this procedure, the abdomen is flattened and a firmer and more aesthetic appearance is achieved. The procedure is generally preferred by women who have given birth, individuals who have lost a lot of weight and experienced sagging skin, or people with structurally weak abdominal wall.

Who is a Suitable Candidate for Tummy Tuck Surgery?

Abdominoplasty may be preferred in the following cases:

  • Those with excess skin and sagging in the abdominal area

  • Women with postpartum abdominal muscle separation (diastasis recti)

  • Individuals who cannot recover abdominal laxity with sports and diet

  • Those with stretch marks and deformation in the abdominal area

  • People who are in good general health and do not have a disease that would prevent surgery

Preparation Before Tummy Tuck Surgery

A detailed examination is performed before surgery. Skin quality, amount of sagging, muscle structure and previous surgery scars, if any, are evaluated. Imaging tests such as ultrasonography may be requested if necessary. Also for the patient;

  • Quit smoking

  • Discontinuation of blood thinners

  • Paying attention to the diet before a certain period of time

recommended.

How is Tummy Tuck Surgery Performed?

Abdominoplasty surgery is performed under general anesthesia and takes 2-4 hours on average. The application consists of the following steps:

  1. Incision It is usually done in the bikini area. This scar is planned to remain under the underwear.

  2. Skin and Adipose Tissue Separation: The abdominal skin is lifted up to the belly button.

  3. Muscle Tightening: Loosened abdominal muscles are reshaped by suturing.

  4. Excess Skin and Fat Acquisition: The abdomen is stretched by removing the sagging tissue.

  5. Repositioning the Navel: It is repositioned to make it look aesthetically natural.

  6. Drain Placement and Closure: A drain is placed in the surgical site to prevent fluid accumulation and closed with sutures.

What is Mini Abdominoplasty?

Mini tummy tuck surgery is the removal of excess skin only below the navel. The belly button is not intervened, the scar is shorter and the healing process is faster. It is suitable for individuals with mild sagging.

The Recovery Process and Things to Consider

  • Hospitalization is recommended for 1 night after surgery.

  • Mild pain, swelling and a feeling of tightness are normal in the first days.

  • Drains are usually removed within 2-3 days.

  • A special corset should be used for 4-6 weeks.

  • It is recommended to walk while leaning forward in the first weeks, full upright posture can be achieved in 7-10 days.

  • Within 2 weeks you can return to daily life, but heavy exercise should be avoided for 6 weeks.

Stitches are usually hidden and dissolve on their own. Regular use of cream and silicone gel is recommended to fade the scars and reduce their prominence.

Tummy Tuck and Liposuction Combination

In some patients, liposuction (fat removal) can be applied together with tummy tuck. Thanks to this combined application, the waist line is thinned and an aesthetic appearance that is more suitable for body contours is obtained. It is especially preferred for individuals with excess fat in the waist and abdominal side areas.

Abdominoplasty Prices and Affecting Factors

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Yes, but the scar is planned to be hidden in the bikini area and fades over time.

No, it's not. This is a shaping surgery. Individuals with excess weight should first lose weight and then undergo surgery.

Preferably, pregnancy planning should be postponed until after delivery. However, surgery is not an obstacle to becoming pregnant.

As long as weight control is maintained, the results of the surgery are long-lasting.
