Younger and Dynamic Looks with Eyelid Aesthetics (Blepharoplasty)

The eyes are the most striking feature of our face and the mirror of our soul. However, fatigue brought on by time, genetic factors and the effect of gravity first start to show themselves around the eyes. Sagging upper eyelids, bags under the eyes and fine wrinkles can make a person look older, tired and sad. In advanced cases, sagging upper eyelids can even lead to a functional problem by narrowing the visual field.

Fortunately, there is an effective solution offered by modern plastic surgery: Eyelid Aesthetics or by its medical name Blepharoplasty.

As Dr. Alper Eskalen, we eliminate these signs of aging around the eyes with blepharoplasty surgery, giving our patients a younger, more dynamic and luminous expression. This relatively simple surgical intervention can make a surprisingly positive difference in the overall appearance of the face.

What is Eyelid Aesthetics (Blepharoplasty)?

Blepharoplasty is the surgical removal and reshaping of excess skin, muscle and fat tissue in the area, which can be applied to both upper and lower eyelids. This operation can be performed for aesthetic purposes as well as for functional reasons such as improving the visual field.

The operation is usually performed under local anesthesia and sedation (light drowsiness) and takes about 1-2 hours.

Upper Eyelid Aesthetics

  • Problem: Loosened skin on the upper eyelid forms folds and hangs downward. This makes it difficult to apply makeup and gives the person a tired expression.
  • Solution: The surgeon makes an incision along the natural fold line of the upper eyelid. This incision is planned so that it is barely visible when the eye is open. Excess skin and, if necessary, some muscle and fat tissue are removed. The incision is then closed with aesthetic sutures. The result is a more open, vibrant and youthful look.

Lower Eyelid Aesthetics

  • Problem: The prominence of fat pads under the eyes, known as “bagging”, sagging and wrinkles in the skin.
  • Solution: The incision is usually made just below the eyelashes so that the scar is almost invisible. In some cases, especially if there is only fat padding and no excess skin, the incision can also be made through the eyelid (transconjunctival), which leaves no external scar. Through this incision, the surgeon repositions or removes some of the herniated fat pads and stretches away the excess skin. The result is a smoother, rested and luminous under-eye area.

Who is a Suitable Candidate for Blepharoplasty?

  • Those with sagging or drooping upper eyelids,
  • Those who experience bagging and discoloration under the eyes,
  • Those who look tired, sad or old due to signs of aging around the eyes,
  • Those whose visual field is restricted due to droopy eyelids,
  • Women and men over the age of 35 with a general health condition suitable for surgery and realistic expectations (in case of genetic predisposition, it can be performed at an earlier age).

Recovery Process and Results

The healing process after blepharoplasty is usually quite comfortable.

  • It is normal to have a slight swelling and bruising around the eyes after surgery. Cold compresses and keeping the head elevated help to minimize this.
  • Stitches are usually removed after 5-7 days.
  • Most patients can return to their social life and work within 1 week.
  • Although the surgical scars are initially pink in color, they gradually fade over the months and become a faint line.
  • The final results of the operation are fully visible in about 3-6 months.

Eyelid aesthetics is an operation that offers long-lasting results that can largely erase its effects, although it cannot turn back time. You can contact Dr. Alper Eskalen and our experienced team to restore the lost vitality and energy to your gaze and achieve a younger and rested appearance.
